About Us

Finest Kind Sportfishing

Finest Kind Sportfishing Charters is the only Owner Operated and second generation family owned company in Maui, with Captain David Hudson at the helm since 1972. Capt. Dave has over 40 years of experience, operating out of Lahaina Harbor. Finest Kind Sportfishing consistently holds the catch records for Maui County.

We believe you will not find a more experienced, harder working and more professional sport fishing team, fishing Hawaii or elsewhere in the Pacific. Using only the finest tournament quality Penn and Shimano tackle, having extensive local knowledge of where the fish are at any given time of the year and what kind of bait should be used for the most action is what makes Captain Dave Hudson’s Fishing Team the Finest Deep Sea Fishing Team since 1972!

“One moment you’re just relaxing and enjoying the peaceful beauty of the Pacific Ocean, lazily listening to the conversation of your companions and the lulling drone of the powerful engines.”

“The next moment, utter pandemonium breaks loose the high-pitched whine of the line uncoiling from an almost smoking reel, the scramble to strap into the fighting chair, the first glimpse of a silver and blue adversary far behind the boat. Fish On!”

A LEGACY ON THE WATER

When Sport Fishing Magazine put the Finest Kind on their cover in March 1986, it wasn’t just a photo — it was a statement. Forty years later, that same spirit of excellence is still running out of Maalaea Harbor every morning before sunrise.

Finest Kind Sportfishing has been a fixture of Maui’s offshore fishing scene for decades, earning a reputation built not on marketing, but on results. Our captains know these waters the way most people know their own backyard — the currents, the ledges, the seasonal patterns that turn a good day into an unforgettable one.

Whether you’re a seasoned angler chasing a Pacific blue marlin or a first-timer just hoping to feel the pull of something wild, you’ll find the same thing on every trip: a professional crew that takes their craft seriously, a well-maintained vessel, and the kind of effort that gets magazines to put you on their cover.

Come fish with us. The water’s warm and the fish don’t know you’re coming.
